| Moisture Barrier Information |
Staticworx® is not responsible for any floor installation failures associated with unaddressed pre-existing site conditions like vapor transmission, moisture permeation, contaminated concrete and damaged subfloors. Always determine if there is a vapor barrier below concrete subfloors before beginning any flooring installation. All subfloors should be tested for moisture using ASTM test methods. For information about moisture and a complete list of ASTM test methods for determining potential moisture problems visit http://Staticworx.com/articles/articles-moisture-barrier.htm. |
PRECAUTIONS/CONCRETE SUBFLOORS
The slab temperature of concrete subfloors shall be between 68°F + 5°F. Slab temperature is critical to the set-up time of adhesive. The average drying time is 90 minutes on concrete. However, this time will vary depending on humidity and temperature.
An acceptable concrete subfloor shall also meet the following requirements:
1. All concrete subfloors shall be dry and clean.
NOTE: Tests for moisture and pH must be conducted as outlined in ASTM-F-1869.
2. A moisture condition of 3 lbs. per 1,000 sq.ft. per 24 hours a day is maximum. One calcium chloride test should be performed for each 1,000 sq.ft. This is mandatory for all subfloors below and on grade.
2a. Testing for moisture using a Humidity Probe and Digital Meter, (ASTM 2170) will require 3 tests for the first 1000 ft2 (100m2) and at least one additional test for each 1000 ft2 (100m2) thereafter. Maximum allowable reading shall be < 75% RH.
3. A neutral pH is necessary for installation. If the pH is greater than 10, it must be neutralized prior to installation.
4. An on-or-below grade concrete floor shall have an acceptable moisture barrier, according to industry standards. If no moisture barrier is present, contact Staticworx® for information.
5. The concrete subfloor shall be flat to a tolerance of 1/8” in ten linear feet.
6. All steel troweled (slick) finished concrete floors need to be properly roughened up (sanded) to ensure adhesion.
WARNING: Materials should not be installed over building expansion joints.
